Property Details
We are drawn to Mid-Century Modern architecture, like Asheville’s Burt King (architect of our nearby home) and Lawrence Traber (architect of this duplex, built originally for his wife as a rental property). We typically enjoy clean design lines and furnishings, with a touch of eclectic and sometimes whimsy, and we renovated the ModAVLtreehouse with these elements in mind. Features include a clean, open floor plan, with updated kitchen and bathrooms. You will be close to everything Asheville has to offer, yet nestled in a secluded wooded neighborhood, 2 miles North of downtown. Chill our hanging chair swing with the provided cushions on the private deck, with a treed mountain view toward the Grove Park area. It feels calm and relaxing, just like being up in a treehouse, and what a spot for coffee on mild mornings!
We have FIVE grocery stores within 1.5 miles (including Trader Joes, Harris Teeter and Greenway, with Ingles and Fresh Market), and more than a dozen restaurants walkable within a mile! The kitchen is equipped for savoring tasty leftovers from so many foodie locations around town, or for preparing to eat-in when so inspired. Kitchen has counter-height seating for three at the island/prep table.
The ModAVLtreehouse accommodations include a queen Venezia bed (New Morning Gallery), and a second bedroom with two twin beds. All new (2014) hygienic memory foam mattresses, with cozy linens provided. Covered carport parking for a single car. One-level living space. In unit laundry is included.
The quiet ModAVLtreehouse is half of this rare side-by-side duplex, with private entrances and carports at each end of the building, and excellent built-in soundproofing between the units. Driveway is shared, and courtesy to not block your neighbor’s access is appreciated and necessary. Please talk to us if you expect to have a second vehicle with you for your visit, so we can clarify any questions.

More Details
Our guests typically are not just visiting Asheville briefly – they’re LIVING here, usually for 3-4 months. Some professionals stay with us to telework seasonally to escape the heat (or cold) back home in a more moderate climate. They savor time exploring the region – not just Asheville itself, but the surrounding towns and attractions, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our selected guests will be good neighbors to the longterm residents in the other half of the duplex, as they are selected and expected to be good neighbors to you.
Since 2014 we’ve had folks stay with us while looking for a place to buy, build, or complete renovations to move to the area. Lovely folks have stayed with us for their Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Classes at UNCA. Film crew members called the ModAvlTreehouse home during the months of a movie shoot in a nearby town. Families have had a calm home-base here for checking out nearby colleges (UNCA, Mars Hill, etc) with high school students looking to start their next academic and life adventures.
What Our Guests Say...
Stay was Transformative!
A Gem in North Asheville
This home has been beautifully updated with impeccable taste and modern comforts- we spent 2 months there this summer(July and August-2018)-it has all the amenities, a comfortable outdoor deck, a quiet neighborhood, plus a convenient carport; the location is minutes from downtown, many restaurants and numerous popular activities. We very highly recommend this house, and hope to return ourselves. Furthermore, we very much appreciated that the owner Cindy was extremely attentive and responsive to any of our questions.

Our introduction to Asheville

We were lucky enough to spend 4 months in this fantastic little mountain oasis! Besides being very mod and stylish with all the comforts of home-the location is primo! Close to everything you need plus the downtown area where things are always happening! Quiet, with ample opportunities to walk the neighborhood and even a few sightings of wild turkeys, a fox and a bear. It’s here we realized we wanted to call Asheville home. We sadly had to leave the mod treehouse but are so glad we got to stay. Thanks Cindy & Lucinda for providing such a wonderful and welcoming place for our adventure. I can’t imagine anyone staying there and not loving it! 😃🙌🏻🐿🌲⛰
A hideaway with a view but close to everything.
So we have been to Asheville since 1993 and since 2001 every year. We have done B&B’s and hotels and motels but VRBO has been the best. This was a brand new 2 bedroom right off Marrimon and close to downtown and Grove Park Inn and Bear Lake( Great Walk) lots of good Breakfast And Lunch Places nearby. Within 10 minutes you are are in downtown with wonderful restaurants and art galleries. Very basic comfortable and clean. Washer dryer a plus. (Our Response: Thanks for the review, Sky! We’ve taken your suggestion and added a few games, AND just turned on cable TV (in addition to the cable internet for Smart-TV streaming subscriptions). We also swapped out the mod egg chair for a pair of comfy swivel/rocker easy chairs. Appreciate the kind words and first review! — Cindy)
ModAvlTreehouse Guestbook entry
Thank you for sharing this snug hide-a-way! It was both a birthday weekend (indulge in Asheville) and an explore-Warren-Wilson trip. Whew! It was great to come “home” to this calm respite.
ModAvlTreehouse Guestbook entry
Our family of four came to tour colleges in and around Asheville. The Mod Treehouse was just right for us. Thanks!
ModAvlTreehouse Guestbook entry…
Greetings! We enjoyed staying in the Mod “Treehouse”! It was the perfect home base for Asheville. So many wonderful food choices nearby – Asheville Pizza & Brewing, Moes, Luella’s, Edna’s, Asheville Biscuitry – we loved them all. We enjoyed seeing the Biltmore in bloom, learning about Asheville’s incredible architecture, and being in the mountains. Asheville is truly special!
You’ll want to stay here forever!
The location, views, and decor are pure perfection! I loved my long-term stay in the Mod Treehouse and didn’t want to leave. I spent countless hours on the deck overlooking the neighboring mountain, enjoying the sounds of nature and privacy surrounding me. This quiet, safe neighborhood in North Asheville is central to all the attractions yet offers a secluded feel like a retreat. The kitchen is well equipped for dining in, the beds are comfy and cozy, and the decor offers a soothing, zen-like atmosphere. The owners are very friendly and were happy to offer flexible dates to accommodate my travel schedule. I can’t wait to come back to this sweet place!

And one of these days we’re gonna make it to Charleston and check out your business there! thanks! Cindy (owner/manager))
Stylish getaway spot…
Loved our stay in the modern, clean duplex nestled high in the treetops iof North Asheville. It was convenient to everything and furnished with everything we needed. Cindy was great to work with. We highly recommend it! .
(Our Response: Thanks for the great review Maddy – and the note in our guestbook. It was a pleasure working with you. If y’all ever want to come back, you’re quite welcome – and maybe we’d get to meet in person. Hope your classes at OLLI at UNCA were great! Thanks Cindy (owner/manager))

Wonderful stay in Asheville. The owners of this property have gone the extra mile to make sure you have a great time in the Mod Avl Tree House. Everything you need is there. The back porch is inviting and relaxing. Thanks so much to Cindy and Lucinda for their hospitality.

Stay Here…
Private and serene. Loved it. Stay here, especially if you are in Asheville for a long visit. It’s near the amazing UNCA farmers market- my favorite.
I came to Asheville to work on the Martin McDonagh movie 3 Billboards. I stayed here for about 2 months. I was very happy here. The privacy, the rain, the sounds of birds made this place a memorable home. Thanks Girls!
(Our Response: can’t wait to see the movie when released! and thanks for the book note and the online review. Very kind!)
